Does patience pay?

Off late my patience is running thin and for good reason. Some of you may be aware that I had been chasing a job offer from Muscat for some time and although I have made some progress, the lethargy at other side is bugging me no end. It has been almost two months since the job was promised to me and salary details shared, but there afterwards everyone seems to have gone on a long slumber.

First there were visa issues, which to be honest were somewhat genuine since this position is based in Muscat while this firm is primarily based in Dubai. Then the concerned employees for my mobilization had proceeded on a long vacation, perhaps in some exotic location enjoying themselves much to my chagrin. Now at the beginning of February when all have come back and other outstanding issues stand resolved, my offer letter seems to have been misplaced! I can’t understand how a courier from Dubai can take more than two weeks to reach Gurgaon, even if it was coming on camel back.

Even repeated calls and emails have not borne any results so far, with my future employers stoically maintaining that the offer letter has been dispatched. I will call them again this week and chase them further in days to come, but till how long can you keep asking and pursuing. And mind you this firm had given me an offer earlier too, when the global crisis had just started, only to pull the plug at the last minute. True I understand the current job market is not the same, as say couple of years back but that does not diminish my irritation a wee bit.

Instances like this and their occurrence time and again, make you doubt your abilities and down somewhere your confidence also does take a silent hit. What makes it worse is the delay is happening due to factors beyond my control and I can’t fathom why something so urgent for me is being treated casually by those who matter. Perhaps sooner or later I will get this job and work for them but the preventable wait has already started causing me much avoidable agony.

I have discussed this with few folks who all agree that I have to be patient and after all patience pays, but there are also limits to my patience.

  1. the chaotic incidents that surround us are designed thus, i often feel, to piss us off and get us to act, consequently, irrationally just so that we can be blame for something that is others' doing!

so don't, even if the limits to ur patience are crossed, let ur passions get the better of u.
keep it together and have a Choco-tini to change the mood.

  2. To be honest. I feel strongly about patience paying back, but the natural excitement and energy does take on you, thus to control that I started to practice 'chilling out'. And now, I am considered a little too chilled out to be taken seriously. Sometimes you just do not know what is the right thing to do afterall. Argh.

    Kisses.

  4. I know you are trying to vent, its not like you don't know the obvious, but I'll still say it anyway: it will work out when it's meant to, not a second before. You can do your part, rest is up to luck/faith/destiny/whatever else you call it..

I am at my wits end too, the worst is when you get apathetic - as long as you care, everything will turn out good

  5. I totally feel your pain. It's like when something is urgent to me, people seem to just take their time and "misplace" files or some shit like that.

I've had the plug pulled from me at the last minute before. It sucks.

Keep your head up. Patience does pay off.

  6. If the company has offered you the job, shouldn't someone there also pursue this and find out why you're not already at work and what's causing the delay? If one letter got lost, they can easily send another. If one employee is on vacation, the company shouldn't stop functioning. I'd be a bit sceptical working for such a company and their offer. This has nothing to do with your competence, but it speaks a lot about the company's level of organization.

  8. Hang in there dude... As they say, if it has your name written on it, it will ultimately come to u...

Bureaucratic red tape---> Corporate red tape...
    well...

What is a necessity of one is often just a way of life for another... that is the way of the world... Don't worry.. !!

  9. I have heard of these kind of incidents in UAE before. It can be very wel due to some gane played inside the company.
My friend was facing such an issue. He later learnt that someone from HR in the company was trying to push her relative into the post ahead of him.
If you know someone there ask them to make an enquiry....

    All d best

  14. Ah.. that familiar feeling. I know I know. Well when all you can do is wait.. I guess that's just what one must do.

  15. Sometimes we are compelled to think in cliches. Let's hope your patience pays. All the best :)

  16. Ohhh, I totally understand what you mean. Curses be upon them who make us wait. We may have no patience... but we have no choice either :-( It's damn lousy, yes.

But in my case, patience never pays. When I get what I want, I start yearning for something else. So you're better off... Prepare yourself to enjoy the dividends of your patience, whenever they come :-)

  17. Sounds like you have the patience of a Saint to me.

I can totally understand your frustration with the wait. I hope it all works out for you.
